Let me give a short introduction about myself. I'm Dan, a lead surgical pharmacist in a hospital. I have almost a decade of pharmacy experience this year. And if you're from the future, that's in 2024. My first interview was for a junior rotational pharmacist at the hospital where I was training. I was so confident; it was my only choice when applying for jobs. With only two positions available and only two trainees on site, I thought I had it in the bag. I was wrong. A course mate from uni wanted to move closer to home. She got the job. I underestimated the competition and had no idea how to prepare for interviews. I didn’t get the job because of my naivety and overconfidence.
I've sat on both sides of the interview panel, so I know how it feels. There's plenty of help available for passing exams, but little guidance on landing your dream job once you've qualified.
